You know the type. The person who slides into your DMs with βCan I pick your brain real quick?β β¦ and suddenly youβve written them a full consultation β for free. It happens to every business owner and blogger at some point. And while generosity is part of who we are, hereβs the truth: you canβt build a sustainable business if you give away all your time and expertise, all the time. Since becoming a new mom, I've had to rein in my tendencies to voice note and message complete in-depth solutions to their problems, just because someone asked! I also realised the people asking me had money to pay for expensive holidays, dinners, and luxury items... but suddenly had no money to pay for my expertise. It was a choice they were making, and I was helping them make that choice by working for free! Here are a few ways to handle brain pickers gracefully: But before we get into it, here's a quick note from our sponsor today! β
β Back to brain picking... 1. Have free resources ready.β ---For example, here are all my helpful FREE resources, there are loads!β --I also point them to my IG content and stories, as I share lots of free tips there! 2. Create a boundary script.β 3. Offer a paid next step.β --This training was created because everyone kept asking me how to make money bloggingβ -- And this one after everyone kept asking the best way to start a side hustle and which paid the most β 4. Donβt feel guilty.β So the next time someone tries to βpick your brain,β remember: youβre not a free buffet. Point them to your resources, offer a way to work with you, and keep your energy for the people who truly value it. Also, its important to note, never to shame or make anyone feel bad if they can't afford your paid products/ services. I was there once! Livin la vida broka. Gracefully remind them you can't afford to work for free and offer your free options. Who knows, later on, when they CAN afford you, they will come back and become paying customers! That's all from me today, thanks for reading! Aisha Preece from Outandbeyond.comβ βP.S. Since I started my blog in 2017, the blogging world has evolved into a totally different place. For starters, Google cannot be relied upon as a 100% reliable traffic source, and AI has made it ten times easier to create content. This means that to stand out and compete in the blogging landscape, you need to do more than just write blog posts. Authenticity and trust are essential for blogging success nowadays. With these updates in mind, it's important that you aren't following and relying on...
Since returning from Ireland, I decided to kickstart my health and start clean eating. I am 37 and I have never in my entire life dieted or restricted my food, I've never needed to I've always been able to rely on exercise to maintain my weight However, since having a baby, I put on 20kg and exercise alone can't seem to shift it (It's 80% what you eat and 20% exercise, I reckon) I don't have the time I used to, so I can't spend hours and hours at the gym burning off excess calories I wanted...
I think I've been away from a corporate job for so long that I've become delusional. I was complaining that my numbers aren't where I want them to be, but then I remembered... But how many hours do you work in a corporate job ?? If you were like me 15 years ago, you worked around 14 hours a day, sometimes more. I would work through my lunch break and past 5 pm to avoid the traffic and head back at 8 pm, sometimes later. With this in mind, it's miraculous that my business is not where I want...
