Starting A Physical Product Business?

From time to time, I’ll admit, I get bored with blogging
Sounds like a first-world problem, I know
But the blogging business model is simple- your content is your product
You write good content,
drive traffic to that content and
monetise that content
If you want things to be super basic and hands off, you just monetise with programmatic ads. (The pros and cons of this can be debated at a later stage )
With the programmatic ad blogging model, you never have to deal with customer support, and you can get away with speaking to no one for weeks, months, even
It’s an introvert's dream
But sooner or later, it gets pretty lonely and isolating.
Especially when things go wrong, and your traffic drops, and you want to learn how to fix it
Anyway, I digress
My point is - I got bored recently, had some existential crisis, and thought I would launch a physical product business
The process looked a bit like this :
--Think of a product
--drive customers to that product sales page
-- Deliver that product
Driving traffic and building up engaged customers is my forte - I was confident I could do that no problem.
But then
I needed to think about how to create or buy the product at a low price ( so I had a profit margin). Then I needed to budget for the actual cost of it.
Then I had to think about packaging companies and the costs
Then, the delivery companies and the costs
Then, how about if someone wanted a refund because the product was faulty?
How do I get the product back? I also absorb the costs of that
In the time it took me to try and figure this all out , the drama with Trump tariffs came into play, and suddenly importing and exporting products didn’t seem so lucrative anymore
In the time I took to try and figure it all out, I could have also
Written lots of new content
Created pins to drive traffic to them
Written six newsletters
Created a digital product and sold it
....all for free, zero costs ( well, apart from my newsletter platform, but there are free options)
Basically, I could have made a lot more money in a much simpler way, with my current blogging business model
And this is why I parked the idea 💡
Sometimes the grass isn’t greener, sometimes it grows if you actually water it!
I’m sharing this because there is a lot of negative news about blogging atm.
People are quitting in droves, saying it’s dead
I say, less competition and more opportunities for us!
If SEO is not working, try Pinterest, if that’s not working, try Facebook, or YouTube, or flipboar,d or paid ad,s or newsletters
There are still so many opportunities to explore that are not dead 💀
You just need to block out the noise and work through the hard
